Projects

Projects in Andover

Andover Trails is a passionate network of volunteers committed to enhancing access to open space in Andover.  We have a long list of completed, current, and future projects. Read below for more information about our accomplishments.  If you are interested in participating in any of the current or planned projects, please visit the volunteer page.

Past Projects

COMPLETE! Bay Circuit Trail in the Doyle Link Reservation
With a DCR grant that we received to fund the materials, we've now re-routed the Bay Circuit Trail near the northern edge of the Doyle Link Reservation to create an exit further west along High Plain Road.

This has the positive impact of moving a portion of the BCT off of High Plain Road and into the Doyle Link Reservation. This new BCT trail section will be officially opened and dedicated in the summer of 2016.

COMPLETE! Mary French Reservation.
In the summer of 2013, we teamed up with the Andover Conservation Commission to upgrade 300 feet of the walkway through the amazing Mary French Reservation. This new section replaced the original existing walkway that had slowly withered under the elements.

COMPLETE: Merrimack River Bridge.
The Andover Conservation Commission has completed a new bridge on the Merrimack River Trail to replace the failing bridge that we helped take down in November 2009. Thanks Bob Decelle for leading the effort!

COMPLETE: Truss Bridge at the Vale Reservation
We are so proud of the work we did in cooperation with AVIS on their Vale Reservation along the Shawsheen River to construct an amazing truss bridge over an oxbow of the Shawsheen River.

COMPLETE: Boardwalk and viewing platform in Mars Swamp / Ward Reservation
The Andover Trails Committee, in conjunction with The Trustees of Reservations and the Bay Circuit Alliance, applied for and received a grant from the DCR to construct an elevated boardwalk and viewing platform across Mars Swamp in the Ward Reservation in Andover. In addition to serving as a new future route for the Bay Circuit Trail in this area (moving it off of Prospect Road and off of Route 125), there is an integrated platform / seating area for relaxing and bird/wildlife viewing.
